Chris Forsdike Young Referee of the Year 2007
Congratulations to Deborah Hartley on receiving the
2007 Chris Forsdike Award for Harrow Referees' Society
Young Referee of the Year at the AGM on 21 May. A special mention too to
Hannah Cooper who was in close
contention, just being edged out by Deborah.
The award was established by a donation from the
late Chris Forsdike who encouraged the committee
to recognise the referees of the future. Chris was a founder member of
Harrow Society back in 1935 and held
a variety of officer posts before his retirement and subsequent move to
Lymington in Hampshire. He did,
however, remain in touch with Harrow, during which time he made the
donation. Since its inception Keith Sloggett
had been responsible for recommending the winner to the committee. Stuart
Kenworthy now has that role.
Ted Gale Award 2007
Congratulations to Andy Taylor who is this year's
winner of the Ted Gale award given for outstanding contribution
to Harrow Society. Andy is a real referees' man, absolutely committed to
Harrow, to training and most recently to
the development of young referees both with Harrow and in his role with MCFA.
Over many years Andy has worked
tirelessly to promote refereeing, has helped many members develop their game
and is widely acknowledged as a true
guru of the LOAF. Just check out the Match Incidents page to see why.

The award, in the form of a silver salver, was
established after Ted Gale left a legacy to the society. It is not
awarded every year but only when it is felt there is a worthy winner. The
president and chairman are solely
responsible for deciding the recipient.
Ted Gale was secretary of the
society until 1966 and chairman until 1976. He then took on the role of
president
until his death in 1981. He served as executive member on Southern Division
for a decade and was well known
within the RA, especially for his drive to move the RA into the twentieth
century. He was a frequent and provocative
speaker at RA conference and well respected for it.
